In preparation for Funding Forward 2025, April Bethea (Director of External Affairs), Cleopatra Jach Acquaye (Director of Programs), and Hala Hassan (Communications & Story Telling Officer) from our team hosted a philanthropy happy hour in Houston, Texas to bring together LGBTQ and allied professionals in philanthropy for an informal gathering.

Speakers included representatives from Funders’ member institutions: Dylan Hoos (Johnson Family Foundation), Glo Ross (Arcus Foundation), and Steph Perkins (Gill Foundation).

Queer & Trans People in Emergent Space (QTPIES) is a peer support and network building space for queer and trans folks working in philanthropy, as well as a place to have emergent conversations on sector-wide news. The space is open to philanthropic professionals at both Funders for LGBTQ Issues member and nonmember institutions.

Funding Forward is the annual gathering of grantmakers committed to LGBTQ issues organized by the affinity group Funders for LGBTQ Issues. Funding Forward 2025 is coming to Houston, Texas from March 31 – April 3 with March 31 being a pre-session day!

New Policy Brief: Project 2025 Poses A Grave Threat To LGBTQIA+ Equality And Health Equity, Racial And Gender Equity
The policy brief documents the anti-LGBTQIA+ and racial equity biases of Project 2025’s architects, many of whom served in former President Donald Trump’s first administration. It also explains the ways in which the proposals affecting the Department of Health and Human Services and specific agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would harm people who are LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, newly arrived to the country, living in poverty, living with disabilities, or otherwise disadvantaged or marginalized.

Queer Mobilization Fund
The Queer Mobilization Fund is currently accepting applications through September 1! Their grants are open to organizations based in the US Southeast that are run by and for queer and trans BIPOC individuals with an intention to uplift the power and visibility of these communities. QMF offers two funding opportunities that organizations may apply to:

Meyer's 2024 Funding Opportunity
Meyer Memorial Trust is now accepting applications for funding through their issue-based portfolios — Our Resilient Places, Our Empowered Youth and Our Collective Prosperity. Check out their applicant toolkit for resources including grant-specific checklists, FAQs and more. The call for proposals is open from August 12 - September 23. Meyer estimates that most of the grants awarded will be between $75,000-$100,000 and 1 year in duration. Learn more.
