We're so proud to share that our Director of Programs, Cleopatra Jach Acquaye, is one of the 16 leaders selected for the Rockwood Leadership Institute 2025 Equity in Philanthropy Fellowship Cohort, in partnership with Wellspring Philanthropic Fund. This Fellowship was created to catalyze a shift in philanthropy in which diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the center of all decision-making levels. 

 

In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on communities across Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee, we released a statement in solidarity with all those affected by this natural disasters. We Foresee Liberation | A Conjuring for Gender Justice

The Third Wave Fund is hosting their annual We Foresee Liberation event on Wednesday, October 30th to conjure power amongst all of the violent and spectacle narratives echoing what our movements are fighting against. Get your tickets today.

Queer & Trans People in Emergent Space (QTPIES) is a peer support and network building space for queer and trans folks working in philanthropy, as well as a place to have emergent conversations on sector-wide news. The space is open to philanthropic professionals at both Funders for LGBTQ Issues member and nonmember institutions.

DISASTER RELIEF AND MUTUAL AID EFFORTS

Grantmakers for Southern Progress: Hurricane Helene Response
Grantmakers for Southern Progress has compiled a list of rapid response and mutual aid funds channeling resources into communities impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky. 

The Queer Mobilization Fund Rapid Response Hurricane Relief
The Queer Mobilization Fund announced that 100% of funds received through their fall sustainer campaign will go to rapid response hurricane relief for their affected grantee organizations. They have already distributed $25,000 and hope to distribute more.

Building Collectively: 4 Takeaways from Movement-Led Community Ownership Models 
Neighborhood Funders Group’s report offers an orientation to the tactical and transformative strategies needed to enable community ownership. It explores examples of relationships between funders and fundees, the role of communication and education in fostering and sustaining change, and the importance of building coalitions and ecosystems to strengthen and broaden bases of support. Learnings from the movement are organized into four main takeaways, followed by important next steps funders can make. 

Transgender Law Center and Emergent Fund Announce $1 Million in Rapid Response Dollars for Trans-Led Organizing Through the Action for Transformation Fund
The Transgender Law Center and Emergent Fund are partnering to launch the Action for Transformation Fund, moving $1 million in rapid response funds into the field to support trans-led organizing, healing, and power-building efforts. Their announcement shares that with attacks on trans rights escalating, especially as we approach the upcoming election, this fund addresses an urgent need to provide rapid-response dollars to trans-led organizations.

Move the Money: Nuts & Bolts: Making Grants to Cooperatively Owned Small Businesses 
Join Alana Kenagy (Artisans Cooperative), Mohit Mookim (Sustainable Economies Law Center), Ricardo Nuñez (Sustainable Economies Law Center), and Mastress Tara (Artisans Cooperative) on Wednesday, October 23, at 2pm EDT/11am PDT for a virtual conversation on how grantmakers can contribute to solidarity economies by supporting cooperatively-owned creative businesses. 

Mobilizing Philanthropic Support for Palestinian Communities
Asian Americans / Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy
is co-sponsoring a funder briefing with 18 Million Rising on October 23 at 3:00 pm EDT/12:00 pm PDT, featuring Arab Resource and Organizing Center and U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about movement organizing on the ground and the important campaigns these organizations have been leading to address both the urgency and roots of the current crisis. 

GCIR Convening: Mobilizing Philanthropy. Shifting Power
Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR)’s biennial National Convening is the foremost gathering in philanthropy on immigrant and refugee issues. The Convening brings together the sector’s leading voices and advocates with the aim of giving funders new tools and renewed enthusiasm to guide their immigrant- and refugee-related grantmaking. The event is happening from Monday, October 28, 2024 to Wednesday, October 30, 2024. 

GOOD DOCS: Queer Futures
GOOD DOCS has partnered with Multitude Films to present QUEER FUTURES. The series centers joy and connection to radically imagine future visions of queer life. Four short films explore gender-affirming healthcare, fat beauty and liberation, nonbinary ballroom culture, and the anonymous connections of a decades-old LGBTQ hotline. 

 

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 

Action Forward Transformation Fund
The Action for Transformation Fund is designed to respond to rapid response organizing needs led by and for trans people. This is a pilot initiative, which means this is limited one-time funding. Grants will range from $5,000-$20,000, with an average of $10,000. Grants will be for general support over a period of 12 months.

ITF’s 9th Grant Cycle is Opened on October 7th
International Trans Fund invites trans-led organizations from around the world with budgets below $100,000 USD to apply for funding in its ninth grant cycle. Since 2015, ITF has provided millions in support of the global movement to secure rights for trans people and improve the lives of trans individuals.

Visibility Impact Fund: Grant Applications are open!
The Visibility Impact Fund seeks grant applications to fund work in support of the bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, and unlabeled (bi+) communities. VIF is considering grant applications for six grants up $2,500. Applications due: November 15th, 2024.
